Fully Functional Autism Centre – Bangalore | Dr Ram Chand Kishor and Dr Sunayana Suma: Parent Review – From Uncontrollable Gut Challenges to Greater Independence in a 4-Year-Old Boy

BENGALURU, INDIA — Every child on the autism spectrum presents with a unique set of challenges, and for one young family, the greatest struggle extended far beyond the diagnosis itself. It was the relentless gastrointestinal issues, disrupted routines, and the emotional toll on the entire household that pushed them to seek a different approach.

When the parents from the USA for their four-year-old son approached Fully Functional Autism Centre – Bangalore, led by Dr. Sunayana Suma and Dr. Ram Chand Kishor, they described themselves as being physically, mentally, and emotionally exhausted. Like many nuclear families, both parents were required to work while simultaneously managing therapies, home-based interventions, and the day-to-day responsibilities of raising a child with autism.

However, one challenge overshadowed everything else. Disturbed Gut.

According to the parents, their son experienced frequent bowel movements immediately after almost every meal. He remained dependent on diapers and had little awareness of bowel accidents. They also observed undigested food in his stools accompanied by a particularly strong odor, making everyday caregiving significantly more demanding.

It wasn’t only autism that was exhausting us,” the parents shared. “It was the constant unpredictability of his Gut, the diaper changes, the cleaning, and wondering whether life would ever become easier.”

Seeking an individualized and holistic pathway, the family enrolled their son in the 10-month Fully Functional Holistic Program for Autism, where the care plan was tailored specifically to his presentation. Rather than focusing on isolated symptoms alone, the program emphasized personalized guidance involving nutrition, lifestyle practices, daily routines, and comprehensive family support.

A Journey Towards Everyday Independence

At the conclusion of the ten-month program, the parents reported several life-changing improvements.

Among the most meaningful milestones was their son’s successful transition away from diapers. They shared that he became increasingly aware of his toileting needs and was able to use the restroom independently.

For the family, this represented far more than a developmental milestone.

It restored confidence, reduced daily caregiving stress, and opened new educational opportunities. With improved toileting independence, they found that school participation became considerably easier, as many educational settings place importance on self-care skills during admission and classroom integration.

The parents also reported noticeable improvements in their son’s sleep routine. Bedtime became calmer, he was able to settle to sleep more independently, and the family experienced a more structured daily rhythm.

More Than Child-Centred Care

Reflecting on their experience, the parents expressed heartfelt appreciation for the guidance provided by Dr. Sunayana Suma throughout the program.

“The program didn’t just help our son,” they explained. “It transformed our family’s lifestyle. We learnt healthier habits, better routines, and approaches that we continue to follow today. We are deeply grateful to Dr. Sunayana Suma and Dr. Ram Chand Kishor for guiding us through this journey.”

Looking Beyond Symptoms

The philosophy at Fully Functional Autism Centre – Bangalore is that autism support should extend beyond addressing individual symptoms in isolation. The centre’s holistic framework via advanced Telehealth approach considers multiple aspects of a child’s health and daily functioning while recognizing that each child requires a customized approach.

The team believes that progress often comes from addressing lifestyle, nutrition, routines, family education, and developmental support together rather than viewing each concern independently.

While every child’s developmental journey is different and outcomes vary from family to family, testimonials such as this highlight the meaningful improvements some families report in independence, daily functioning, and overall quality of life.
