Kia India Expands Plastic Waste Management Initiative to Ghaziabad; Project D.R.O.P. Now Active Across 12 Cities

Implemented by the Indian Pollution Control Association (IPCA), Project D.R.O.P. focuses on creating awareness among households and institutions about responsible plastic disposal while establishing a structured collection mechanism to channel plastic waste into recycling.

With the addition of Ghaziabad, the initiative is now active in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Chandigarh, Panchkula, Zirakpur, Ambala and Ghaziabad, reflecting its growing footprint in urban India.

Speaking at the launch, Atul Sood, Senior Vice President, Kia India, said India’s rapidly urbanising landscape requires stronger and more sustainable waste management systems. He said the initiative aims not only to improve plastic waste collection infrastructure but also to encourage long-term behavioural change among citizens.

Dr. Radha Goyal, Deputy Director, IPCA, said the project seeks to strengthen community participation in plastic waste management and improve recycling by creating an efficient collection network.

Officials from the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation also called for greater public participation, particularly among young people, to support cleanliness and sustainable waste management efforts in the city.

As part of the awareness campaign, students and attendees witnessed a street play on plastic waste management, highlighting the importance of waste segregation, responsible disposal and recycling.

India generates millions of tonnes of plastic waste every year, making effective collection and recycling systems a key component of the country’s environmental sustainability agenda. Industry-led initiatives such as Project D.R.O.P. are increasingly being viewed as complementary to municipal efforts by promoting community engagement and improving access to organised plastic waste collection and recycling infrastructure.
